Columbus, facing left, on board a ship, holding the tiller with hist left hand. His right hand is holding the hand of a female figure, pointing with her right hand to the left. Above them is a star. The edge of the medal is a compass.

Reverse:
The American eagle facing left at the top of the reverse. Below the eagle and inscription is the exhibition building.
