Peter Brändström was a Swedish businessman born October 6, 1735 and died August 22, 1809 in Gävle, Sweden. Brändström was in the trading business and became one of richest men in Gävle. He made a donation to found Borgarskolan, an elementary school, which opened on January 16, 1797.

This medal was made to be rewarded to graduates of the elementary school.
